WHEN it comes to football she would be aligned more to the red and white side of the Kerry-Cork border than the green and gold but that won’t stop the whole parish of Rathmore combining to cheer on lovely Denise Collins in this year’s Rose of Tralee international festival.

She was crowned Cork Rose last night and it sparked off great celebrations in her home place where locals will be rooting for her when she meets Daithí O Sé on stage in August.

Denise, who attended Hollymount National School and Scoil Pobail Sliabh Luachra, is from Knocknaloman, Rathmore and she is a teacher in Davis College, Mallow.

She is a daughter of Pat and Margaret Collins with her father an architect in Killarney and her mum a nurse in Millstreet Community Hospital, having previously worked in Killarney Community Hospital for several years.

Denise was sponsored for the Cork Rose pageant by the Kenya Education Project.
