Dmitry death now a murder probe

squad car and bikeGARDAI examining the circumstances surrounding the death of 24-year-old Dmitry Hrynkevich from Killarney are now treating the case as a full-scale murder investigation.

The decision to upgrade the probe was taken following receipt of the results of a post mortem examination conducted at Kerry General Hospital on Saturday.

The results of the coroner’s findings will not be made public for operational reasons.

The young Killarney man was found in a critical condition in the front garden of a house at Killeen Woods in Tralee on Wednesday night.

He had sustained very serious injuries and was brought by ambulance to Kerry General Hospital. He passed away late on Friday night.

It is understood that a party had been held in the house on the night he was injured and gardaí are appealing to anybody that witnessed anything to contact them.

They are particularly anxious to hear from anyone who was in the house or in the vicinity of Killeen Woods between 10.00pm and 11.00pm on Wednesday.

Dmitry moved with his family from Belarus to Ireland several years ago. He was a former student at St Brendan’s College and was very well known in Killarney.

Dmitry, who stood at well over seven foot and was one of the tallest men in Ireland, grew up in Killarney and lived at Aghadoe. More recently, he had addresses at Bishop’s Court, Killarney and in Killeen Woods, Tralee.

Two men, one in his 30s and the other in his 20s, were arrested in connection with the assault and they have both been released without charge. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
