STAFF in a Killarney restaurant have dug deep and encouraged others to do likewise to raise funds to support three members of a local family who are recovering in Australia following a serious road crash.

Ger and Marguerite Brosnan and their daughter, Karen, as well as their other daughter’s partner, Mark Francis, were all badly hurt in a two-car collision that claimed the life of family friend Marty Roberts.

The husband and wife, from Port Road, Killarney, travelled to Perth just before Christmas to spend the holiday with Karen and their other daughter, Claire – who are both residents in Australia – but the dream trip turned into a nightmare when the collision occurred.

They are all making steady progress but the rehabilitation route will be long and costly, particularly as they find themselves on the opposite side of the world to home.

Staff at the restaurant in Muckross House organised a coffee morning for the Brosnan Fund and it generated a hugely impressive €3,700 for the popular family.

Staff involved in the fundraiser included restaurant manager Colin Baker, Sheila Daly, Theresa Murphy, Ewa Pluta, Malgorzata Gacek, Agnieszka Woszcynska and Annmarie Casey.

They were joined by Muckross House Trustees chairman, Michael Larkin, and Muckross House manager, Denis Brosnan, for the presentation of the cheque to Ger Brosnan’s brothers, Connie and Tim.
