30 individuals arrested for various offences

The operation, which included a series of searches at properties, involved over 50 Garda personnel

A major Garda operation focused on targeting, disrupting and detecting individuals engaged in criminal activities, including the sale and supply of illegal drugs, was carried out in Newcastle West this Tuesday morning.

The series of searches at properties involved over 50 Garda personnel from the community engagement and crime functional areas, supported by the Regional Support Unit, Divisional Roads Policing personnel and Divisional Drug and Detective Units.

Six residential properties were searched and 30 individuals have been arrested for various offences, including outstanding bench warrants.

A Garda presence in Newcastle West this Tuesday morning

Those arrested on warrant are scheduled to appear at today’s sitting of Newcastle West District Court. Two of those arrested are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in County Limerick, in connection with ongoing investigations into recent theft and drug-related incidents.

In addiditon, illegal drugs with an estimated street value of €5,000, pending analysis, have been seized, alongside several items of evidential value. A number of vehicles were also seized and one male was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Officer in charge, Superintendent Michael Fleming, said the operation targeted persons who are involved in criminality and the sale and supply of illegal drugs.

“The focus was to detect and arrest persons committing crime in the community and to ensure their activities are disrupted,” he said.
