THERE are a total of 3,241 applicants on the local authority housing waiting list in Kerry, official figures confirm.
The biggest demand is for one-bedroom properties with 1,553 on that list alone while there are 899 waiting for two-bed houses and 685 waiting for three-bed homes.
There are nine applicants waiting for four-bed properties and nine on the council’s list for five-bed houses.
The figures were provided in resoonse to a query from Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Niall Kelleher, at a meeting of the Killarney Municipal District Council.
It has also emerged that over 200 applicants have been on the waiting list for 10 years or more, 61 between nine and 10 years and 442 applicants have been waiting between seven and nine years to have a place to call their own.
A further 549 applicants have been waiting between five and seven years, 554 have been on the list for between three and five years and 964 are waiting between one and two years.
The number than have been waiting less than a year to be housed currently stands at 469.
