3K for Kay raised over €11,600 for a great cause

THE family of a popular Killarney woman, who passed away four years ago after a battle with cancer, has made an incredibly generous donation in her memory to the Irish Cancer Society.

There was a real sadness in Killarney when the hugely popular Kay McCarthy, from Muckross, passed away in April 2017 but her husband, Seanie, daughter Jenny and son Shane have ensured that her memory will live on in the community.

They organised a special 3k event to mark the fourth anniversary of her passing and what would have been her 60th birthday on April 24 and, in the process, they raised a whopping €11,638 for their chosen cause.

The late Kay McCarthy

They planned the event as a thank you to the Irish Cancer Society who provided great guidance and support throughout Kay’s illness.

People were asked to walk, run or cycle a 3k route of their choice on a stated week and to make a donation to the cause. All participants are also asked to wear blue in Kay’s memory.

Schools, creches, clubs, organisations and groups of friends were invited to participate and make a donation on a 3K for Kay page on Just Giving.

All those who contributed were entered into a draw for some super prizes.
