A TOTAL of 70 young swimmers got to showcase their skills for the benefit of their parents and families at a bumper swim gala held in the Aquila Club at the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney.

They highlighted all the skills they acquired during their lessons all year but the real highlight was when they got a chance to watch their parents and the staff have a race in the pool, the eventual winner being Cody O’Meara.

The aim of the gala was to promote participation in sport and swimming and to encourage children to get active and be involved in swimming classes and swim challenges on a regular basis.

All the children received special commemorative certificates and a goodie bag with medals going to the individual race winners.

”Swimming is one of the fastest growing sports in Ireland and our team at the Aquila Club endeavour to promote the health and fitness benefits that one can get from swimming,” said Aquila Club swim co-ordinator Dieter Gogsch.

One of the highlights of the swim gala was the novelty wheelbarrow race and family relay race with Alexandra Biblokhvost and Sarah Reidy winning the former while the winners of the Aquila Club perpetual trophy in the family race were the Roarty Family, with the Aherns the runners-up and the Doolan family in third place.
