It has become a real red letter day on the Killarney social calendar and this year was no exception as one of the town’s best known and best loved characters celebrated his birthday.

Nobody loves marking his own special day more than Seamus ‘Sham’ Courtney from Loughquittane in Muckross and this year he had to make a little extra room for candles on the cake as his reached his milestone 77th year.

Celebrating with Sham are Ian Looney, Joan O’Shea and Brigid Whelan

Sham – as he is more popularly known – is a man that takes his social obligations seriously and he ensured he was surrounded by many great friends when he marked the occasion in some style.

His favourite local hostelry, Jack C’s Bar on High Street, was specially decorated for the occasion on Saturday night as customers raised a glass to toast Sham’s special day.

A retired farmer and a proud Loughquittane local with a great sense of humour, Sham ensures he does something special for his birthday every year and this time was no exception as he had a night to remember in very good company.
