‘A fall from three feet can cause irreversible damage’

Fears have been voiced for the safety of children climbing a wall in Doirín Álainn

The dangers posed to children who have been scaling and walking along a six-foot wall which is a boundary between a Killarney housing estate and a private property have again been highlighted with a call for immediate action to be taken.

Cllr Brendan Cronin said there is a continuous health and safety risk at the location in Doirín Álainn, off the Killarney to Tralee road, at Ballydribbeen, and he said a solution is required to prevent a serious fall and injury.

Cllr Brendan Cronin: Worried about children falling

“A fall from six or seven feet can do tremendous harm. Even a fall from three feet can cause irreversible damage,” Cllr Cronin stressed.

Council officials said they are keen to see a resolution to this long-standing issue and they acknowledged that the matter had been repeatedly raised by Cllr Cronin.

“This issue is being investigated and a meeting has been scheduled with a fencing contractor to consider possible solution,” officials said.

They said once a way forward has been determined and agreed, work will be scheduled for completion by the third quarter of this year.
