Holy Cross Mercy School in Killarney has bid a fond farewell to three long-serving educators who have retired from the classroom.
Deputy Principal Anne Lucey and Assistant Principals Judy O’Mahony and Lucy O’Mahony celebrated their retirement after a combined 112 years of teaching service.
The school community came together to honour their
dedication and commitment to the school.
As the day drew to a close, the pupils and staff formed a guard of honour as Anne, Judy and Lucy left their teaching stations for the final time, surrounded by a sea of red and grey uniforms.

The children sang a specially composed song in tribute to the three teachers, creating a jubilant atmosphere.
In the evening, the school staff and members of the board of management gathered at the Killarney Plaza Hotel to celebrate the retirees’ remarkable careers.
Chairperson of the board, Michael Coghlan, made presentations to Anne, Judy, and Lucy and thanked them for their huge contribution to the school, while colleagues also made presentations to them to mark their dedication and service.
Principal Alice Davern, meanwhile, praised the trio’s invaluable contribution to school life.
“Throughout the best and most challenging of times, you never failed to lead by example, inspiring us, instilling hope and always ensuring that pupil and staff welfare were at the forefront of all that you did,” she said.
“You leave behind a legacy that will be characterised by hope, humanity and humour, which have been the hallmarks of your service and will leave an indelible mark,” she added.
