A major milestone for wider Killarney community

Killarney Golf and Fishing Club: Event is a major milestone

Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, in partnership with the European Golf Association and Golf Ireland, will host the prestigious European Amateur Team Championship from 8–12 July on the iconic Killeen Course.

Preparations are now well underway as anticipation builds for one of the premier events in the international amateur golfing calendar. The tournament will involve 16 national teams from across Europe, each featuring some of the most exciting emerging talent in the game.

This marks a significant milestone in the club’s history, as it prepares to host the championship exactly 50 years after it first hosted the event back in 1975.

The return of this prestigious championship not only highlights the enduring appeal of Killarney Golf and Fishing Club but it reinforces its standing as one of Ireland’s top golfing destinations.

Preparing the Killeen Course has been both exciting and demanding

Director of Golf, Colin Finlay, said: “This is a major milestone for our club and for the wider Killarney community.

“We are honoured to be part of this elite event, and excited to showcase our world-class facilities, our breathtaking lakeside setting and the unique spirit of Irish hospitality to Europe’s golfing elite.

Over the past number of years, the Killeen course has received significant investment, with improvements made across all aspects of the golf course, from tees to greens and, in particular, its built features which are all dedicated to enhancing an already superb layout.

Head Greenkeeper, Enda Murphy, said: “Preparing the Killeen Course for the European Amateur Team Championship has been both an exciting and, at times, a demanding process.

“Our goal has been to elevate every aspect of the course to true championship standard, from the speed and consistency of the greens to the definition of all areas on the course.

“We’ve invested a lot of time and effort to ensure that the course not only looks pristine but plays to the highest competitive expectations. We are proud of the results and can’t wait to see Europe’s best amateur players take on the course for this elite competition,” Mr Muphy stated,

With participants and supporters arriving from across Europe, the championship will bring a vibrant international atmosphere to Killarney this July. The club looks forward to showcasing these improvements to Europe’s top amateur golfers and to celebrating a shared love of the game in this historic setting.
