A NUMBER of GPs in Kerry are organising an information evening, titled Abortion: Is it healthcare? at the Rose Hotel, Tralee this Sunday (6.00pm).
Speakers will be psychiatrist Professor Patricia Casey and obstetrician/gynaecologist. Dr John Monghan Obstetrician/Gynaecologist and the event will be chaired by Dr Andrew O’Regan, a Killarney-based GP and university lecturer.
Organisers say the event will be of particular relevance to healthcare professionals but it open to all.
Abortion will be discussed and questions will be invited from the audience and a panel discussion will follow on from the contributions by the main speakers.
The event is supported by the Kerry Right To Life movement, chaired by Cllr John Joe Culloty from Killarney.
Meanwhile, Kerry for Choice has welcomed what it terms the government’s proposed clear and concise enabling clause as an important step towards a referendum to Repeal the Eighth Amendment.
Spokesperson Paula Dennan said the insertion of an enabling clause which reads: “Provision may be made by law for the regulation of termination of pregnancies” will oblige the Oireachtas to legislate for abortion.
“The people of Ireland want change. The Eighth Amendment is failing women and girls. The healthcare provided to all pregnant people, whether they wish to continue their pregnancy or not, is compromised while it remains in our constitution” Ms Dennan added.
Kerry For Choice will have an information stall in Killarney this Saturday afternoon.
