A Kerry school has been named as the overall prizewinner in a video competition for young people to highlight greater internet safety.

Pupils aged between eight to 11 from St Joseph’s National School in Ballyheigue won a cool €2,000 for their two-minute video entry, Perception, which was described as a thought-provoking submission approaching the question of artificial intelligence and leaning on advice from a grandparent.

What stood out for the judges was the inter-generational message where the children valued older members of our community.

School principal, Terence Dineen, said: “We couldn’t be more delighted to learn about this big win and our wonderful students couldn’t be more deserving”.

He said everyone involved put a mammoth effort into ensuring the submission was relevant and interesting.

“They’ve made their school and their families very proud,” said Mr Dineen.

The competition is promoted and sponsored by Trend Micro, a global cybersecurity leader, helping to make the world safe for exchanging digital information.
