Beaufort have that champion feeling

BRILLIANT Beaufort made their own sporting history this afternoon when they registered a sensational extra time victory over gritty Cork side Dromtarriffe in the Munster Club Junior Football Championship final in Mallow.

A huge crowd is gathering at Beaufort Bridge and in the GAA clubhouse this Sunday night to welcome home their provincial championship heroes following their dramatic 2-13 to 2-12 victory in a nailbiting, edge-of-the-seat thriller.

We’re on our way: Team manager Eanna O’Malley keeps fans briefed on the homecoming

Padraig Doona and Fergal Hallissey snatched the victory with overtime points and although the Cork champions made it a one-point game again, Eanna O’Malley’s finely tuned side held on for a famous victory.

A fine Nathan Breen goal and points from former Kerry minor Mike Breen and Padraig Doona gave the Kerry kingpins an early advantage but a Séamus O’Sullivan goal and points from O’Keeffe and Collins brought the Cork side right back into it.

O’Sullivan stung Beaufort with another goal that saw them lead 2-6 to 1-3 at half-time but the impressive Ciarán Kennedy bulged the Dromtarriffe net and Kennedy, Niall O’Connor and Fergal Hallissey kept Beaufort in front as the game reached a gripping climax.

It will be a long night in Beaufort.
