GARDAI in Killarney have issued a warning to the public to be alert to the danger of their supply of home heating oil being stolen from their tanks.
This follows an incident in Anablaha, Kilcummin late on Monday evening, or in the early hours of Tuesday morning, when opportunist thieves targeted a private property.
They stole power tools and fuel from the tank and Gardai have reminded homeowners to ensure fuel tanks are kept secure during the coming winter season which is traditionally a time when theft of home heating oil becomes more prevalent.
Tank locks, sensor lights and oil level alarm monitors can improve tank security.
Gardaí would like to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious persons or suspicious vehicles in the Anablaha area on Monday night or Tuesday morning and anyone with any information that might assist in the investigation is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064-6631222.
In particular, Gardaí are anxious to speak to any person that may have been offered power tools for sale in the past few days.
