Burns in, Barry out for Mayo clash

David Clifford: Corner forward

THE Kerry team to face Mayo in the crucial Super 8’s clash at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney on Sunday (4.00pm) shows one change on personnel from the side that beat Cork in the Munster SFC final in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Diarmuid O’Connor of Na Gaeil switches to midfield in place of his clubmate Jack Barry with Micheál Burns of Dr Crokes coming in to take O’Connor’s place on the wing.

The Kerry County Board has not yet released details of the substitutes that will sit on the bench on Sunday and, bizarrely, only the starting 15 were named when the official announcement was made at 8.00pm.

Although it was one of the big talking points in the lead-up to the team selection, Peter Keane and his selectors have remained loyal to the defence that leaked three goals against the Rebels

It’s the biggest and most eagerly anticipated game of the year for Peter Keane’s young side who will be seeking revenge after losing to James Horan’s charges in the National League in Tralee and again in the NFL final in Croke Park.

Kerry: Shane Ryan (Rathmore), Jason Foley (Ballydonoghue), Tadhg Morley (Templenoe), Tom O’Sullivan (Dingle), Paul Murphy (Rathmore), Jack Sherwood (Firies), Gavin White (Dr Crokes), David Moran (Kerins O’Rahillys), Diarmuid O’Connor (Na Gaeil), Micheál Burns (Dr Crokes), Sean O’Shea (Kenmare), Stephen O’Brien (Kenmare), David Clifford (Fossa), Paul Geaney (Dingle), Dara Moynihan (Spa).
