Bypass the scene of yet another crash

Fire Service personnel at the scene of the crash this Monday

ANOTHER crash has occurred at the most notorious junction in Kerry.

The Lewis Road exit to the Killarney bypass road was the scene of another collision shortly after 12 noon this Monday when a truck collided with a car.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but a spokesperson said the incident was not very serious.

The crash happened just days after Killarney Municipal District Council was assured that significant progress has been made with a plan to upgrade the road to make the junction much safer.

Cllr Niall Kelleher, who led a deputation to Transport Infrastructure Ireland and Transport Minister Shane Ross on the issue, had asked officials when will the junction be upgraded and what timeframe was in place to build the new roundabout planned to relieve traffic congestion on the road.

Officials said the Part 8 public notice for the proposed works will be published this month and the necessary land acquisition will then commence.

“It is hoped to have the lands acquired and to have the construct contract procured by the end of 2019 with works being carried out in 2020,” a council spokesperson said.
