Gleneagle Squash Club’s final competition of the year did not disappoint with Ireland international Paul O’Brien and his team pitted against Arthur Murphy’s team.

First up on the night was Karina Murphy against junior Eabha Lynch and the latter’s dedication to training was evident as she won secured vital points for Team O’Brien.

Second up was saw Josh Moore overcoming Noreen Tobin to make it 2-0 before Eamonn Bowler took on Ray O’Callaghan who was  the slight favourite and he went into a 2-0 lead .

But Eamonn was having none of it and put the match back at 2-2. The fifth game was a cracker and it looked like Ray was going to lose but eventually ended 14-13 in his favour to leave it 2-1 on the team scoresheetp

The Penultimate game was not played as Ignacy Truchan had to forfeit and James Cahill making it two a piece in matches, leaving it to the captains to battle for the season finale.

Paul O’Brien, who has represented Ireland this year, was hot favourite but Arthur Murphy, a great clubman, was not going to let it happen too easy. Paul won the first game but Arthur had chances to take it. Arthur dug deep and brought the match even at one a piece but that was Paul’s spark to turn on the after-burners and he took the next two games to win the night for his team.

Coaching will commence again in September but the club is open all year round for those that want to play.
