KERRY soccer kingpins Killarney Celtic produced a scintillating display in the hugely competitive Munster Champions Cup at the weekend to knock out title holders and raging favourites Janesboro FC of Limerick.
Brian Spillane’s side can now justifiably claim to be right up there with the best in the province after they registered a terrific 2-1 win, doing it the hard way by coming from behind to snatch a deserved victory.
Thomas Clarke had edged dominant Janesboro ahead after 26 minutes and the city slickers continued to create chances but Celtic stuck to the task at hand, kept in tight at the back, played in a controlled manner and made a huge effort to get back into contention.
The Killarney lads hit top gear in the last 10 minutes and Stephen McCarthy drew the sides level with a great finish after 82 minutes before Danny Roche pounced for a dramatic but deserved winner five minutes from time much to the delight of the celebrating Celtic faithful.
The Limerick side, who also suffered surprise early exit in the FAI Junior Cup this season, went home gutted and Celtic, meanwhile, can progress to the next round of the competition with great confidence.
