Champs Legion top list of All-Stars nominees

A TOTAL of 11 players from newly crowned East Kerry champions Killarney Legion and nine from beaten finalists Dr Crokes have been included in a shortlist of 45 for this year’s East Kerry GAA All-Stars team.

Spa have five players shortlisted, Gneeveguilla have four while three players each from Glenflesk, Kilcummin and Currow make the list.

Rathmore and Fossa have two nominees with one each from Listry, Firies and Cordal.

The list will be cut to 24 this Wednesday and the All-Star awards, promoted by the East Kerry Board and sponsored by the Aquila Club and The Kerryman, will be presented at a function in the Brehon Hotel on Friday, January 17.

On the night the East Kerry Person of the Year award will be presented to East Kerry trainer Jerry O’Sullivan who guided the senior divisional team to a superb county championship win while Kilcummin GAA stalwart Billy Doolan will be enrolled to the East Kerry Hall of Fame.

The 45 players nominated are:

Killarney Legion: Cian Gammell, Conor Keane, Rob Leen, Darragh Lyne, Jonathon Lyne, Thomas Moriarty, Podge O’Connor, James O’Donoghue, Jack O’Neill, Damien O’Sullivan and Kieran Slattery.

Dr Crokes: Tony Brosnan, Johnny Buckley, Micheál Burns, Daithi Casey, Brian Looney, Shane Murphy, John Payne, Michael Potts and Gavin White.

Evan Cronin of Spa: Nominated

Spa: Evan Cronin, Liam Kearney, Brian Lynch, Mike McCarthy and Michael O’Donoghue.

Gneeveguilla: Owen Fitzgerald, DJ Murphy, Shane O’Sullivan and Pa Warren.

Kilcummin: Kevin McCarthy, Paul O’Shea and Shane Sweeney.

Donnchadh O’Sullivan of Firies: Nominated

Glenflesk: Patrick D’Arcy, Chris O’Donoghue and Dara Roche.

Currow: Mike McCarthy, Garrath O’Connor and Seamus Scanlon.

Rathmore: Brendan O’Keeffe and Mark Reen.

Fossa: David Clifford and Eoin Tablot.

Firies: Donnachadh O’Sullivan.

Listry: Ronan Buckley.

Cordal: Seán Óg Ó Ciardubháin.
