Hardened gardai and firefighters in Killarney more than met their match when they took on a star-studded under eight side from Mastergeeha FC as part of an end of season fun day at the club grounds.

Lacking in match practice and a little shy about highlighting their undoubted skills and panache, the emergency services outfit relied on the likes of Garda Brendan McMahon and firemen John and Martin O’Grady and Brendan O’Connor to get them through.

But although they received back-up from Mastergeeha stalwarts Neil Sheahan, Martin O’Dwyer, club chairman Alan Moynihan and John O’Callaghan,it didn;t have the desired result.

Mastergeeha’s under eight side never tired and came out on top to claim the perpetual trophy is now in place with the gardai and firefighters reported to be already in training for the same fixture next season.

The club’s underage team ran out easy winners

“It was a wonderful afternoon of surprises, fun games, the presentation of certificates and a buffet of treats and the gardai and fire service personnel also availed of the opportunity to share some top safety tips with the young players,” said Mastergeeha official Ramona Keogh.
