Community allotment project to play a key role

There was a fantastic turnout for the relaunch of the Tralee Community Allotment Project which took place on Monday with representatives from the community, voluntary and statutory sector acknowledging importance of allotments in the community.

It is hoped that the project will continue grow and play a significant role in the community, promoting positive change in a variety of areas, including tackling food waste, composting, health, well-being, education and awareness.

The Tralee Community Allotment Project is an initiative launched by Tralee Town Council in in 2010 in response to a growing demand for such a facility in the town. It was originally initiated through a collaboration with local community groups, including Transition Town Tralee, Shanakill/Rahoonane Organic Community Garden and Gortbrack Organic Farm.

This relaunch ensures that the allotments continue to thrive as hubs for local engagement and eco-friendly practices.

Over the years, the Tralee Community Allotment Project has proven to be much more than a place to grow fruits and vegetables and it has become a community cornerstone, providing valuable opportunities for education, sustainability and social connection.
