THE Courtney clan certainly kept it in the family – and in some style too – when they scorched to victory in the annual Dr Crokes GAA Club golf classic at the weekend.
Johnny Courtney, who runs the Victoria House Hotel on Muckross Road, with his wife Sinead, led the hotel team to glory and what made it a sensational success story was that his team-mates were his three young sons, Creagh, Killian and Sean.
Johnny was playing off a handicap of 14 with Creagh playing off 11, Killian off 17 and Sean off 20. They returned a magnificent score of 109 points.
The classic took place on the Mahony’s Point course over two days with a fantastic turnout of over 70 teams.
Runners-up were the Dromhall Hotel team of Shane Kelly (18), Donie McSweeney (16), Dermot Roche (13) and John Lynch (8) with 105 points and in third, also on 105 points, were the Killarney Autos team of Seamie O’Connor (14), Phillip O’Connor (17), Paudie Lynch (13) and Brendan Lynch (13).
