Culprit told to own up or face the consequences

Catherina O’Sullivan’s car has a very obvious tear mark along the side

A Kerry local elections candidate has lodged a complaint with gardai after her car was damaged outside the count centre at the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre in Killarney on Sunday.

Aontú candidate for the Kenmare electoral area, Catherina O’Sullivan, returned to her vehicle, which had her logo on it, to discover that someone had run a key or another sharp object along the side of the car, leaving a long tear in the paintwork.

Given the restricted access to the centre, she said it is quite possible that someone who was there for the count was responsible.

Candidate: Catherina O’Sullivan,

“I am extremely disappointed that someone would stoop so low as to physically damage my property,” she said.

“I have lodged a formal complaint with Killarney Garda Station and given that the site is covered extensively with CCTV, I would hope that the perpetrator is found,” she told KillarneyToday.com.

Ms O’Sullivan said she respects the right of every person to hold their own political viewpoint and she personally met many of the candidates competing for a seat in Kenmare to congratulate them after she was eliminated.

“It is the adult thing to do,” Ms O’Sullivan remarked.

“For someone to act so childishly is disappointing. I would ask that person to come forward before the gardaí find out who they are.

“If they repair the damage they have caused, I believe in second chances and if that person has the decency to do so, I will not go further with the matter,” said the first-time Aontu candidate who polled 207 first preference votes.

“If they do not, I will allow the Gardai to pursue this as a criminal matter,” she stressed.
