Sinn Fein’s Pa Daly is poised to be the second candidate elected in Kerry with the fifth count currently underway at the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre.
With Michael Healy-Rae having hoovered up the greatest share of the first preference vote last night, all eyes are on the remaining four seats with Daly, Independent Danny Healy-Rae and Fianna Fáil’s Norma Foley all certain to be returned .
The big battle will be between Fianna Fáil’s Michael Cahill and Fine Gael’s Billy O’Shea who are slugging it out for the fifth and final seat with Cahill currently enjoying a 500-vote advantage.
O’Shea has refused to concede, however, and he is hoping that a sufficient amount of transfers will come his way but Cahill is expected to triumph, particularly with a big transfer anticipated when his party colleague, Linda Gordon Kelleher, is eliminated.
