WELL over half a century after he brought the delightful Dame to life for the first time, dapper Declan Mangan is preparing for another spectacular stage spectacular as the Killorglin Panto Group fine-tunes its upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.
The gifted retired schoolteacher, who is the scriptwriter, producer and director – as well as paying Dame Tin Lizzy – has adapted the script last used in 1989 and it features all the traditional characters from the Wizard for what will be the town’s 56th annual pantomime.
Miltown teacher Bronagh Murphy will play the lead role of Dorothy and the hilarious comics will be Kevin Moriarty and Colm Clifford who will play the parts of Here and There.
The musical director for the last five years, Martin Hurley, has a chorus of over 30 who will perform some well-known Oz favourites and some modern showstoppers which are sure to impress.
Martin’s wife, Jackie O’Mahony, has made a name for herself as a superb choreographer and she has staged some very successful Strictly come Dancing shows all over the county. This year Jackie is also directing the show and her creative stage imagination should add to the Killorglin panto’s already unrivalled reputation.
The show will run at the KCYMS from Saturday, January 19 to Sunday, January 27 with matinee shows on January 19, 20 and 27 and February 3 with nightly shows from January 23-26.
