A talented young Killarney athlete not only brought home a medal from the national community games finals but he also recently got to meet one of his sporting heroes.
Nine-year-old Damon Murphy won a bronze medal in gymnastics in the finals in Kilkenny in the boys’ under 11 category.
Damon trains at Douglas Gymnastics Club in Cork and Legacy Elite Gymnastics in Killarney.
A pupil at Faha National School, he recently took part in an advanced club display with the Douglas club and Damon and his, brother Tyler, were delighted to meet Irish Olympian Rob Heffernan who was one of the special guests at the event.
Hefferenan wrote his name into the sporting annals when he won gold in the 50km walk at the world championships in Moscow.
