A KILLARNEY man has been appointed to the prestigious position of president and chief executive of the Ireland Funds America, a global philanthropic network that promotes and supports peace, culture, education and community development in Ireland and for Irish-related causes around the world.
The organisation has raised over $600 million for deserving causes in Ireland and beyond, benefiting more than 3,200 different organisations.
David Cronin, the son of retired AIB Killarney manager Denis and Mary Cronin, Loreto Road, Killarney, will take up the post in June having worked in philanthropy for the past decade, raising more than $100 million through his role as chief executive of UL Foundation.
He has worked very closely with philanthropist Chuck Feeney and he is also a member of the Munster Rugby Commercial Board.
Mr Cronin has previously served as operations officer of tech start-up Qumas specialising in governance, risk and compliance management and he previously worked New York as an equities and options trader for Wall Street Access.
A former student at St Brendan’s College,Killarney, he holds a Masters in International Business from Trinity College and is a graduate of UCC.
