Do YOU know the speed limit on Park Road?

A speed detection van monitoring traffic on Park Road in Killarney

Despite the very regular presence of speed detection vans in the area, there is no signage on Park Road indicating what the legal speed limit is from Daly’s roundabout to the Franciscan Friary roundabout, Cllr Brendan Cronin has complained.

He said the result is that drivers don’t know if they are adhering to or breaking the limit and he asked council officials to explain why there are no visible speed limit signs on such a very busy route.

Cllr Brendan Cronin: Questioned why there is no signage

Cllr Cronin was told that the current legal speed limit along that section of the R-876 Park Road from the Park Road roundabout to the Friary roundabout is 50km/h.

The limit commences on the N22 as drivers enter the Park Road roundabout.

Kerry County Council said it will provide speed limit repeater signs along the Park Road.

Cllr Niall O’Callaghan said he uses that road a number of times every day and he was always of the impression that the limit was 60km/h.

Officials heard that if drivers weren’t informed of the limit then it might be very difficult to prove a case against them in court.

“You have to wonder if they know what the peed limit is given that there is no signage,” Cllr Cronin said.
