A DRIVER observed by gardai travelling at 170km/h, in a 100km/h zone, with icy conditions on the roads, was arrested and the vehicle was seized.
The incident occurred at Ballymacelligott, close to the main N21 Killarney-Tralee road, shortly before 10.30pm on Tuesday.
Gardai said the learner driver, in a Volkswagen Passat, was also unaccompanied at the time. It is understood that the driver was male and aged in his late teens.
The arrest was made by members of the Kerry Roads Policing Unit who have issued a reminder to all drivers to slow down as speed kills.
Temperatures plummeted on Tuesday night and dipped below minus one in Kerry,making driving conditions quite dangerous.
