WHEN Packie O’Connor finished his birthday breakfast at his home this Saturday morning little did he know of the noisy and colourful surprise that awaited.
Today is the popular Marian Terrace man’s 60th birthday and his club mates and friends in Killarney Celtic FC were determined to mark the occasion in a fun but socially distanced fashion.
Encouraged to step out to the front garden by his family, Packie got the surprise of his life when a colourful cavalcade of cars whizzed past, horns blaring, Celtic flags waving from the open windows and music and chanting filling the air.

The fun birthday drive-by was organised by club official Mary Lyne and she had no shortage of players and supporters willing to turn out to wish the popular club stalwart well.
Packie, a former Celtic and Legion player, is one of the most dedicated members of the club and he spearheads the field committee, leading by great example in a hard-working and enthusiastic manner.
He is also one of the main driving forces behind the club’s weekly lotto and any task that Celtic needs seeing to, Packie is one of the first to volunteer.
His wife, Noreen, and his family celebrated his special day with him and Packie took a special delivery of champagne and balloons from his Celtic pals which were delivered to his garden wall by club official Frank Roberts.
