Killarney Legion GAA Club has been awarded a grant of €142,000 to fund developments at its grounds in Derreen.
The development comes following a visit to the club by Sports Minister, Thomas Byrne, during a general election canvass with Fianna Fáil candidate Linda Gordon Kelleher.
Minister Byrne met with Legion club officials David Randles, Liam McGuire and Eamonn McGuire and they outlined the need for funding to finance a number of projects to cater for members of all ages and abilities.
Legion Chairman David Randles said the intention is to install an elevator in the clubhouse to ensure the club facilities are fully inclusive.
“We have a fully equipped gym on the upper floor and we want to ensure that everybody can gain access with ease,” he told KillarneyToday.com.
“We will have the new Kerry Stars base right alongside us here and it’s all part of the overall plan for inclusivity,” he added.
The Legion club is also planning to renovate theclubhouse and to develop meeting rooms which can be used by the club and the community.
The €142,000 allocation under the Sports Capital programme was confirmed this Thursday in an addition to the upgrading of grant assistance for Milltown/Castlemaine GAA to a total of €174,000.
