KERRY students who avail of the SUSI grant will receive a €250 top-up in their grant before Christmas, it has been confirmed.
Kerry TD and Minister for Education, Norma Foley, has today welcomed funding of €50 million nationwide which will be a welcome festive season bonus for college students.
The funding, which was provided in Budget 2021, will offer financial assistance to all EU full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students in recognition of the significant upheaval they have experienced due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The scheme will ensure students who avail of the SUSI grant will receive €250 in addition to their grant before Christmas while students who do not avail of the grant scheme can reduce by €250 any outstanding contribution fee payments or receive a €250 credit note for their institution.
In a small number of cases, alternative arrangements will be made for the payment of the monies to students.
SUSI and institutions will be communicating directly with students over the coming weeks on this matter.
“The support package announced today is in recognition of the financial difficulties faced by many students due to the onset of Covid-19 and will go some small way to help round off what has been a very challenging year,” Minister Foley said.
