€28,000 in total for men’s sheds projects

A total of 14 men’s sheds in Kerry are to share a total of €28,000 in funding announced this Wednesday by the Minister for Education and Kerry TD, Norma Foley.

The initiative will see grants of €2,000 provided to over 400 men’s sheds projects nationwide to assist them with running costs such as electricity or insurance bills.

Minister Foley said: “This funding will provide welcome support for these 14 organisations who continue to provide an extremely positive and creative outlet for men in Kerry.

She added: “This funding can be used to cover running costs or to carry out improvement works and is a further endorsement of the wonderful contribution men’s sheds make to their local communities.

The Kerry men’s sheds receiving funding are in Killarney, Barradubh, Dingle, Kenmare, Sneem, Ballyheigue, Listowel, Ballybunion, Caherciveen, Ballyduff Men’s Shed, KC Men’s Shed, Tralee, Waterville and Sliabh Luachra.

Men’s sheds members volunteers for a number of community projects and, in Killarney, they helped with the clearance of rhododendron in thenationalpark.
