Additional traffic management measures have been implemented in the vicinity of Fossa National School to ensure greater safety for students, teachers and parents during ongoing major road works on the main Killarney-Killorglin road.
Concern was expressed at a meeting of Killarney Municipal District Council but councillors were assured that engagement had taken place with the contractors to ensure the pinch points where pupils were being dropped off and collected were made wider and safer.
Council official Brian O’Connor said, however, that there will be many traffic delays in the Fossa area while work is ongoing over the next number of months.

Cllr Brendan Cronin asked officials when will funding be allocated by Transport Infrastructure Ireland for pavement upgrade works at Killalee and in Lackabane in Fossa?
He was told that a contract is being procured to improve a section of pavement between Gap Cross and the Killarney Brewing and Distilling Company and that section is to be undertaken in 2025.
An expanded report is being prepared for the N72 at Lackabane to incorporate the 3km between Fossa and the Ballydowney Roundabout.
This will set out the improvement requirements for the entire section and the receipt of funding in 2025 to improve part of it.
In other matters relating to Fossa, Cllr Marie Moloney asked Killarney Municipal District to deploy its road sweeper along the road and footpaths in the village as it is currently very dangerous for pedestrians and cyclist.
Council officials said staff will continue to maintain and clean the N72 in Fossa.
