Family business helps to drive charity initiative

O’Sullivan’s Shop at Beaufort Bridge is sponsoring the Drive your Recovery initiative

A FAMILY business in Killarney is helping to power the efforts of a popular local charity by donating €1,000 worth of motor fuel to help in its work.

O’Sullivan’s Shop at Beaufort Bridge is sponsoring the Drive your Recovery initiative undertaken by the Kerry Cancer Support Group which operates buses to ferry cancer patients to and from hospitals in Cork and Limerick for treatment.

The family-run shop, service station and hardware will sponsor diesel to be used to fuel the Health Link transport vehicles with extra services now provided routes to ensure physical distancing in line with guidelines due to Covid-19.

Breda Dyland: “The past year has been a very anxious one for the charity”

The Kerry Cancer Support Group, established in 2007, has been transporting patients for their cancer treatment since 2010 in keeping with its motto that nobody should face their cancer journey alone.

The charity has brought people to over 35,000 appointments in the past 10 years and it also provides information and support to families experiencing cancer and to schools and groups in the region with their different campaigns.

Breda Dyland, Manager of the Kerry Cancer Support Group, remarked: “We are delighted that O’Sullivan’s have chosen us as their local charity.

“The past year has been a very anxious one for the charity and our service users but we have made the adjustments and we are happy to say we have stayed on the road throughout.

“Knowing that locals support us always gives everyone a great boost and we stop outside the shop every day so their sponsorship means a great deal,” Breda said.
