Fashion feast for two worthy causes

Staff from Scamps & Scholars Childcare Centre getting ready for their big charity event

A FASHION extravaganza with over 3,500 “pre-loved” style items for sale, is being planned for two very worthy causes.

The fourth annual Scamps & Scholars event will take place at Langford Street in Killorglin on Friday, February 22 from 6pm to 10pm and Saturday, February 23 from 11am to 8pm.

The event has already raised €12,000 for the childcare centre’s charity partner, the Kerry-Cork Health Link Bus and another €3,000 for Scamps & Scholars.

Last year the Kerry-Cork Health Link Bus brought people from all over Kerry and west Cork to attend over 3,000 appointments in the Cork University Hospital. The free bus service receives no government funding and is funded entirely from sponsorship and fundraising events.

“It helps to give cancer patients the peace of mind that they have a safe, secure and supportive method of attending their medical appointments before being transported home again afterwards,” said Scamps & Scholars manager Derek O’Leary.

This service also engages with schools to ensure that the younger population receives information on such matters as cancer prevention, reducing the risk of cancer, screening, body awareness and healthy lifestyle.

Scamps & Scholars is mid Kerry’s largest community childcare centre and is enhancing its current service offering by adding to its outdoor play spaces with additional equipment. The charitable company provides low cost, high quality childcare and early years’ education to close on 210 children and 170 families from Killorglin catchment area. It has been in existence since 2001 and continues to grow with great support from the local community.

The event, organised by staff members of Scamps & Scholars will provide much needed funding to both charities and they are looking forward to a great weekend of browsing, shopping and socializing.
