Two men who were questioned in relation the fatal stabbing of a 53-year-old man in Tralee have been released without charge.

Gardaí are still investigating the death of Joseph Brosnan, originally from Connolly Park in Tralee, who was pronounced dead on Sunday in the town centre Abbey Court apartment complex.

Two men, one in his 30s and another in his 50s, were detained for questioning at Killarney and Tralee garda stations respectively but they were released this Tuesday.

A file is being prepared to be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

It is understood that Mr Brosnan was at a gathering at the apartment complex, close to Denny Street, on Sunday when an altercation took place.

Gardai and medical emergency services were alerted and rushed to the scene but Mr Brosnan was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

A preliminary examination of the body was conducted on Monday by Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Heidi Okkers-Harnett, before a full post mortem was carried out at University Hospital Kerry.
