Five in the running for best breakfast prize

Killarney Lodge is shortlisted

FIVE Kerry businesses – including one in Killarney – have been shortlisted for the 2019 Georgina Campbell Irish Breakfast Awards.

Killarney Lodge on countess Road, owned by Caterine and Marcus Treacy, is included in the final list along with the Park Hotel Kenmare, Benners Hotel in Dingle, Castlewood House in Dingle and Shelbourne Lodge in Kenmare.

A gala awards ceremony will be held in the InterContinental in Dublin on February 19 and it will be attended by 200 representatives from the hospitality industry, food writers and food organisations and with special guest, chef Neven Maguire.

Kenmare’s Park Hotel is shortlisted

The awards celebrate the finest Irish food producers and those who take special pride in serving the best breakfasts and brunches in Ireland.

Each establishment on the shortlist has been commended by Georgina Campbell’s independent assessment team for creating a breakfast menu that stands out.

“Some of my most memorable meals have been around the breakfast table, yet it has for too long been the Cinderella of dining experiences,” she said.

“The Irish Breakfast Awards aim to change all that, by encouraging establishments to create menus that introduce visitors to our vibrant food culture by showcasing the best local and Irish foods and crediting our dedicated local producers”.
