A popular Kerry priest, who spent a number of years as a curate in the Killarney parish, is to share his personal story of cancer with a congregation at a special ceremony next Tuesday night.
Fr Brendan Walsh, now PP in Causeway and Ballyduff, was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year but he had made a great recovery and is back tending to the needs of the busy parishes he serves.
He will share his story at the monthly devotions to St Pio in the Church of St Stephen and St John in Castleisland (7.30pm) where a healing Mass was also held for him just before Christmas.
Since he was diagnosed in May of last year, Fr Walsh has been amazed by the response from the people of Kerry who he has thanked for their prayers and for being so kind and supportive.
He previously spoke about the importance of early detection and regular check-ups as his cancer was diagnosed through a routine blood text, despite not having symptoms.
Fr Walsh, a passionate Liverpool supporter, hit the headlines on his 60th birthday in 2019 when parishioners attending Mass in the Church of St Peter and Paul in Ballyduff surprised him with a Liverpool FC themed cake and the choir gave a rendition of the club anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.
