Killarney has been included in a new national campaign which aims to inspire and support teenage girls in embracing physical activity and leading active lifestyles

The project, HerMoves, led by Sport Ireland, seeks to redefine what sport means to teenage girls and encourage them to discover activities they genuinely enjoy, keeping them active and engaged while sharing their experiences with friends.

At the heart of HerMoves is the recognition that every individual has unique interests and preferences and the campaign aims to empower teenage girls by providing them with a supportive environment to explore different activities and find what moves them physically, emotionally and socially.

The goal is to help them unlock their active potential and develop a lifelong love for physical activity.

As part of the campaign, Sport Ireland and Basketball Ireland have come together to launch the HerMoves Basketball program designed for girls who are new to basketball or have previously dropped out of the sport and are not currently registered with a club.

The sessions, facilitated by experienced coaches, aim to create an inclusive and enjoyable atmosphere

Killarney is one of the designated HerMoves Basketball Hubs in Ireland to run a six-week basketball programme, running every Friday from May 26 to June 30.

The sessions, facilitated by experienced coaches, aim to create an inclusive and enjoyable atmosphere where girls can explore basketball, rediscover their passion for the game, and find joy in being physically active.

The sessions are free of charge and participants will receive a complimentary hoodie at the end of the six weeks as a token of their commitment and achievement. Due to limited capacity, however, the maximum number of participants is 15 participants aged between 13 and 17. Therefore, we kindly ask those who secure a spot to make their best effort to attend all the sessions, ensuring maximum benefit for themselves and the group as a whole.
