SEVERAL hundred lilies have been blessed and distributed in Killarney this Thursday as the annual Novena to St Anthony draws to a close.
The church was packed to overflowing this Thursday morning to celebrate St Anthony’s feast day and another huge crowd is expected this evening as the nine-day solemn novena draws to a close.
The blessing of lilies is a tradition dating back decades and there was no shortage of people willing to share the flowers in full bloom in the church this morning.
The week of prayer included a special Mass for students sitting their Leaving and Junior Cert exams with two Masses each day at 10.00am and 7.00pm and singing as led by Marina Cassidy.
There was also a blessing of expectant mothers, a healing service and, this afternoon, a blessing of children took place.
