His memorable set list opened with Warrior and he followed that with terrific tracks like Dead Ringer for Love, You took the words right out of my mouth, All revved up and no place to go, I’d do anything for love (but I won’t do that) and a superb cover of the rock anthem Black Betty before culminating with his legendary anthem Bat out of Hell.

Meat Loaf was due back in Killarney in November 2007 where he was to perform on the indoor stage at the INEC but he had to cancel the show at short notice due to illness.

Meat Loaf, whose real name is Marvin Lee Aday, played the role of Eddie in the 1975 musical film The Rocky Horror Picture Show and, in 2016, he was honoured with the Hero Award at the annual Q Awards music ceremony but he will be best remembered for his music, selling over 100 million albums worldwide.

Announcing his passing, at the age of 74, his family said: “We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man.
