THIS was the disgusting sight that awaited residents of a roadway adjacent to one of Killarney’s most scenic visitor attractions overnight.
Mounds of domestic waste, including soiled nappies, empty food and drink containers and other filth, were dumped on the side of the road at Curragh, Aghadoe and it has caused great upset for locals.
They brought the matter to the attention of Cllr Brendan Cronin, who lives close by, and he has reported it to officials in Kerry County Council.
“This is just unacceptable. There’s a great community spirit up there and everybody plays their part in keeping the area looking good.
“When something like this happened it’s frustrating and demoralising,” he told KillarneyToday.com.
Cllr Cronin said the illegal dumping of household waste is an ongoing problem but residents point out that it has been getting worse in recent weeks.
He has called for covert cameras to be installed on the roadway to deter a repeat incident or to identify and penalise those responsible for similar acts in the future.
“These people clearly have no respect for the environment or the local community. Hopefully, they can be identified and prosecuted by Kerry County Council,” Cllr Cronin said.
