TRAIN and travel enthusiasts in Killarney are being offered what could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel in a luxury steam train as part of a major summer promotion planned by a specialist holiday company.
Passengers can experience the magic of steam travel when the Emerald Isle Explorer visits the town as part of its six-day tour of Ireland.
Tickets are now available for a special evening steam tour on Saturday, June 17, staring out from Killarney, heading across to the northern side of the spectacular Dingle Peninsula, to visit Tralee. For the 35-minute journey, the Emerald Isle Explorer will be hauled by V Class no. 85 Merlin locomotive, owned by the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland.
It will be steam-hauled from Killarney that afternoon to arrive in Tralee just over half an hour later, giving passengers an opportunity to visit the Kerry County Museum’s Medieval Experience, before heading back to Killarney.
Tickets for the evening tour are available in three classes, starting at ST£40 per person for Premium Standard, right up to Pullman Style Dining at ST£70. Those in dining will enjoy sweet and savoury nibbles accompanied by a glass of wine.
Tickets are also still available for the full six-day tour of Ireland on board the Emerald Isle Explorer, which includes overnight stays in Killarney, Westport and Belfast. The six-day fare, based on two people sharing, is ST£2,195 for Pullman Style Dining, ST£1,995 for Premier Dining and ST£1,475 for Non-dining
