KERRY Airport has received a significant cash boost from the Government to help fund projects at the Farranfore facility which has a key role to play in the local tourism industry.

In one his last deeds before the new administration takes over, outgoing Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe, confirmed that €66,431 has been allocated to Kerry Airport.

It is part of a €1.2 million regional airport fund set to benefit Donegal, Ireland West and Waterford, as well as Kerry.

Describing the grant as very good news, Kerry TD Brendan Griffin said the funding will be used to upgrade airside security doors, to purchase an emergency security vehicle and for 12 fireman kits.

“This funding has been specifically allocated to support safety and security investments at the airport that have already been approved by the Department of Transport.

“Supporting regional airports has been a priority for Fine Gael as Kerry Airport and others play a vital role in ensuring connectivity for the regions” Deputy Griffin said.

“These initial grants will enable Kerry Airport to proceed with important works to ensure that safety and security standards are maintained and enhanced.”
