THE woman who sustained serious injuries in an accident at the Cleeney Roundabout in Killarney this morning was rushed to Cork University Hospital for emergency treatment.
The collision, which occurred shortly after 8.30am, involved a truck and a pedestrian aged in her 50s. The driver of the vehicle is not understood to have been injured.
The accident happened close to a pedestrian crossing at the very busy junction. It is believed the truck was turning onto the bypass road from the roundabout and heading in the Cork road direction at the time.
Emergency services, including paramedics, garda and the fire service, were quick to the scene and the roadway was immediately sealed off.
A forensic examination of the scene and the truck was conducted and the road remained closed until mid-afternoon with traffic diverted to other routes by gardai on duty at the roundabout.
