GARDAI in Kerry have launched an investigation after a pregnant woman was allegedly assaulted in the county over the weekend.
It is reported that the woman was 32 weeks pregnant and her baby girl was later delivered stillborn.
A post-mortem is expected to be carried out on the baby by Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margot Bolster, this Wednesday.
Gardaí attended University Hospital Kerry on Sunday evening after a woman was admitted earlier in the day with physical injuries.
A man in his mid-20s was later arrested and detained for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
He has since been released and a file is due to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
