THE chains are oiled, the saddles adjusted and a lively team of volunteers are ready to hop on their bicycles and hit the road in aid of a great cause.

Team Geaney – a small group of charity champions led by Denis Geaney from Killarney – will cycle around the Ring of Kerry this Saturday to raise funds for the intensive care unit of University Hospital Kerry.

They are embarking on their day-long adventure in support of Gene Tangney from the Black Valley who is being cared for at the hospital as he continues his long and difficult recovery from coronavirus.

Popular Gene was in the care of the dedicated ICU team who placed him in an induced coma and ventilator to assist with his breathing for three months. He remains in hospital and is making a slow but steady recovery.

In line with HSE guidelines, it will only be members of the Team Geaney crew that cycle on the day with numbers limited to 20, including the support crew.
