TEAM Garvey’s were no match for Glanmire when the sides met in the first game of the ladies’ superleague on Friday.
It was always expected to be a tough challenge given Glanmire’s years of experience at this level and the Cork side had a huge first quarter hitting 28 points while Castleisland notched 13.
Glanmire’s Gigi Smith was unstoppable but Team Garvey’s Le’Jzea Davidson sustained an ankle injury in the early part of the game and, although she managed to keep going, she went over on the same ankle in the dying stages.
Glanmire continued to excel as the game progressed leaving the final score at 112-41 in favour of the Cork side.
Top scorers for Team Garveys were Le’Jzea Davidson on 17, Lorraine Scanlon who hit 12 and Killarney’s Rheanne O’Shea on six.
Gigi Smith bagged 29 points for Glanmire with Claire O’Sullivan on 18 and Aine McKenna hitting 17.
Despite the disappointing result, it was a big night for Team Garvey’s Paris McCarthy who made her debut in superleage on the starting five.
Team Garveys next game will be next Saturday evening October 16 when they face Fr Mathews in Castleisland Community Centre at 6.30pm.
